Somerset Parkland will deliver a rigorous STEAM based curriculum. Our focus is for our students to become problem solvers and apply critical thinking skills. Students will be engaged in computer science, engineering, and biomedical science beginning as early as kindergarten. Technology will be incorporated into instruction on a daily basis. Teachers will create a hands-on classroom environment that empowers students from a young age to problem solve and make connections with real-world scenarios. Somerset is dedicated to providing the highest level of education through differentiated instruction; working with each student at his or her level. Small group learning is utilized within the classroom to give students more individualized attention. Students will receive intensive assistance and remediation if additional support is necessary. In addition, gifted/high achieving programs will be offered to promote rigor, independence in learning, and leadership skills. Students will also experience the importance of the Arts with classes in art, music, foreign language, physical education, and character building. At Somerset Parkland learning will be fun, innovative, and meaningful to create a life-long passion for learning for all students.
Somerset Parkland will promote a culture that maximizes student achievement through a rigorous educational program within a safe, family-like environment where students feel valued and secure. Somerset Parkland will implement the “neighborhood” school paradigm in the management structure to consistently maintain the feeling of a small school environment. Parent and community involvement in Somerset Parkland is essential and will directly correlate to each child’s academic success. Parents will be considered an integral part of Somerset Parkland and volunteering at the school, joining in school committees, and participating in the numerous events held at the school for students and families will be encouraged.
Somerset Parkland will be committed to building strong relationships with parents therefore parent committees such as School Advisory Committee (SAC) will be created to create a partnership with parents, teachers and administrators. VIPP Committees (Very Involved Parkland Parents) are additional groups that will be established to involve parents that value supporting the students and school. All families are required to complete 30 volunteer hours to create the school-home connection. Creating partnerships with local businesses and community members will also be a priority for Somerset Parkland.
